Reiki.
What it is:- This form of complementary medicine uses the energy that fills our world. Reiki therapists help you, or your pet, guide this energy into correcting your physical or nonphysical imbalances. As with most alternative therapies, progress is accomplished when your body corrects the cause of the disturbance. This is often in direct contrast to typical drug therapy which uses partially or totally synthetic concoctions to override particular symptoms of ill health.
Reiki was a technique widely employed to heal both physical and nonphysical problems in the ancient Orient. As health practitioners began to specialize in physical or nonphysical aspects of human health, the Reiki techniques for rebalancing all aspects of a person's existence were lost. They were rediscovered during the last century in Japan.
Modern medical doctrines separate physical health from mental/spiritual problems. Physicians treat the symptoms of your physical body. Psychotherapists focus on your mental imbalances. Various religions emphasize what they view as your spiritual deviations. The reality is that trying to help living beings find health and balance by focusing on only one aspect of their existence is similar to expecting to produce a complete cake by calling the gas company to check on your gas meter. Because your body repairs any imbalances it is experiencing, Reiki practitioners neither diagnose nor prescribe specific treatments. Your whole being is treated regardless of the condition. Reiki therapists would not consider a recipient's condition resolved if only the physical signs were relieved. Allopathic practitioners have similar views but different interpretations. A neurosurgeon would not consider you "cured" of a blood clot in your brain simply because a cold compress reduced the pain. Could you imagine treating an anorexia patient by merely prescribing appetite stimulants?
What it is not:- Reiki is not a belief system, channeling, nor religious in nature. The recipient of the therapy can believe the therapy will be of absolutely no value and the benefits will be the same. Pets, of course, have no preconceived beliefs about whether this therapy will help them recover or not. Naturally, if the owner does not think Reiki therapy will help their pet, they will not choose this type of treatment.

If it's so good, why haven't I heard of it? - The use of this method for healing animals is so rare that the class Dr. V. attended was the first one organized in the United States specifically for practicing veterinarians. We have used this technique successfully on a variety of pets, but even you, as "just a human", can directly benefit.
How can Dr. Van Cise do this when other vets can't?- Doctor Van Cise earned certification in this rediscovered health system to enable him to help both you and your pets. The training certifies Dr. V. as a therapist for humans. After spending years in formal schooling and possibly several more years in continuing education meetings, most Doctors are unwilling to commit the time, effort, and money needed to learn a new system of healing.
What will I see?- Both the Reiki practitioner and the recipient should be relaxed. Human recipients need to remove their shoes and loosen or remove any tight accessories like belts, ties, bracelets, or waist bands. Sessions are usually conducted while you lay on a padded table. Pets are allowed to rest in a comfortable position. If the recipient requests, soothing music is played to enhance the relaxation. Humans receiving Reiki can engage in conversation or just lie quietly, whichever they prefer.
Dr. V. places his hands on or near specific positions on the recipient's body. He leaves his hands in each place for one or more energy cycles then moves them to the next position. The entire head, neck, and trunk (front and back) are covered. Sometimes the legs and arms are treated if the imbalance involves these extremities.
What do I, or my pet, feel?- Each person's perception is somewhat different. Most individuals perceive warmth. Often a pet will lean into Dr. V's hands, suggesting that he is really enjoying the sensation. At the end of the session, pets and people feel very relaxed. Many of our humans recipients have social or business commitments later in the day and can not simply lie around after the session ends to enjoy the feeling. For those individuals, we follow the therapy with a special energizing session.
Why would I want this for me or my pet?- Humans and pets endure a variety of stresses during their lives. Sometimes these result in disease symptoms. Other times the stresses cause a general tired or unsettled feeling. We can give you, or your pet, relief from these side-effects of stress. Humans can feel stress from the "daily grind" or "catastrophic experiences". Pets, as well as people, may be overwhelmed by chronic or severe diseases.
Whether your stress is physical, mental, or emotional, it is likely that Reiki can bring you relief. If you would like an opportunity to feel the best you have in a long time, the soothing effects of Reiki may be just what you need. Your pet may find that this therapy, alone or in combination with other forms of care, helps to restore balanced health.
